Part of my journey

I am originally from São Paulo, Brazil, so Portuguese is my native language. I began my research career as a Biologist, and for some years, I worked with Plant Ecology, investigating plant communities in the rich Atlantic Forests in Brazil, with internships at São Paulo Forest Institute and the Tropical Forest Ecology Laboratory at USP. During college, I became interested in science education, involving myself in outreach projects and being a volunteer science teacher in adult education at the Legion of Good Will (a nonprofit organization providing educational and social assistance programs for economically disadvantaged communities). During my master's degree at the University of São Paulo, I started to develop didactic materials with the inquiry-based science education approach. Since then, I decided to dedicate myself primarily to science education.

Already involved in research in science teaching, I became engaged in developing teaching materials that incorporate principles of scientific literacy.As a result, I have written science teaching materials adopted in the public school system of São Paulo, digital teaching resources for smartphones used in several Brazilian states, and for some of the leading​ Brazilian educational publishers.​

In recent years, I had the opportunity to improve my teaching practices by teaching students from different contexts and levels (high school, adult education -10 year-experience -, undergraduate, graduate, and professional development). In addition, I do research with a mixed-methods approach and teaching projects about the nature of science, dialoguing with the various dimensions of curriculum, active methodologies, teaching planning, and the production and evaluation of science education materials.​

Fulbright

Doctoral Dissertation Research Awards (DDRA 2019-2020) 
I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and had the opportunity to take classes at the University of Arkansas and work as a visiting Ph.D. student at the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education at SMU Lyle School of Engineering (Texas, USA).
