Part of my journey
I am originally from São Paulo, Brazil, so Portuguese is my native language. I began my research career as a Biologist, and for some years, I worked with Plant Ecology, investigating plant communities in the rich Atlantic Forests in Brazil, with internships in São Paulo Forest Institute and the Tropical Forest Ecology Laboratory at USP. During college, I became interested in science education, involving myself in science and education outreach projects and being a volunteer science teacher in adult education at the Legion of Good Will (a nonprofit organization that provides educational and social assistance programs for economically disadvantaged communities). During my master's degree at the University of São Paulo, I started to develop didactic materials with the inquiry-based science education approach. Since then, I decided to dedicate myself primarily to science education.

Already involved in research in science teaching, I became engaged in the development of teaching materials that incorporate principles of scientific literacy. I have written science teaching materials adopted in the public-school system of the city of São Paulo, digital teaching resources for smartphones used in several Brazilian states, and for some of the leading Brazilian educational publishers.

In recent years, I had the opportunity to improve my teaching practices by teaching students from different contexts and levels (high school, adult education -10 year-experience -, undergraduate, graduate, professional development). In addition, I do research with a mixed-methods approach, and teaching projects about the nature of science, dialoguing with the various dimensions of curriculum, social justice, active methodologies, teaching planning, and the production and evaluation of science education materials.
